About Headlong
Headlong Dance Theater is a collaborative, contemporary dance company based in Philadelphia. Since 1993, Headlong has created over forty dances performed nationally and internationally at places like the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, Dance Theater Workshop, PICA's Time Based Art Festival, Mass MoCA, PS 122, Houston's Society for the Performing Arts, and the Yale Festival of Arts and Ideas among others. The wide range of Headlong's work springs from a deep commitment to collaboration, humor, and formal experimentation. Notable works include ST*R W*RS AND OTHER STORIES (for which they received a Bessie award), ULYSSES, BRITNEY'S INFERNO, HOTEL POOL, SHOSHA and CELL. Every year Headlong hosts an artist run performance festival called Dance Theater Camp that focuses on approaches to hybrid performance training and wild performance experiments. In fall of 2008, Headlong kicked off the Headlong Performance Institute, a full credit, semester long, off-campus study program in Philadelphia that takes place every fall.
